MELODY TIME

1948

Melody Time is the 10th feature film released in the Disney Animated Classics, and the fifth package film produced due to economic problems during the 40s.
As the previous package films had, Melody time features short films using music as the base for storytelling. This time there are 7 different stories, some with original concepts, some that are based on popular tales.

Even though it's probably the least popular of all the package films, it actually has a lot of innovative stuff. Artistically it has more segments that stand out than any other package film before. This probably has to do with the fact that, once again, Mary Blair was in charge of colors and BGs. In past features Blair's style was greatly featured, but most of the times it would be diluted with some classic Disney aesthetics. But in Melody Time we get to see some pretty awesome BGs with great colors, specially in Once Upon a Wintertime and Johnny Appleseed segments.

Another interesting segment is the Bumble Boogie part, which kind of resembles the Pink Elephants on Parade segment from Dumbo. The music is a jazz variation of Korsakov's Flight of the Bumblebee by Freddy Martin. This piece of music was originally intended to be a part of Fantasia, but was scrapped later on.
Watch it in italian right here!

Other segments include a poem by Alfred Joyce Kilmer about Trees, an adaptation of the tale of Pecus Bill and a samba segment starring Saludos Amigos and The Three Caballeros characters Donald Duck, Pepe Carioca and even the Aracuan Bird!
